Toyota Hilux Throttle Controller: Find Your Generation

Got a Hilux that hesitates when you put your foot down? A Roar 4X4 throttle controller plugs in at the accelerator pedal and changes how quickly the pedal signal ramps up. This page helps you pick the right one for your Hilux, whether it was sold new in Australia, New Zealand, Thailand or the Gulf.

Which generation do I have?

Start with your build date (on the compliance or build plate) and the front of the ute. Then match the plug on your pedal to the photo on the product page.

Generation / code Years (as listed) How to recognise it Plug Product page
Hilux (5-pin pedal) 2000–2004 Pre-N70 Hilux with a 5-pin accelerator-pedal connector. Many Hilux of this era use a cable throttle with no pedal plug, and this page doesn't apply to those. T63 Hilux 2000–2004 (5-pin)
N70 (7th gen, "Vigo") launch face Apr 2005–Aug 2011 Slim swept headlamps, narrow grille with a chrome bar, rounded body-colour bumper. The 2008 grille tweak stays in this look. 567 Hilux N70 Apr 2005–Aug 2011
N70 Series II facelift Sep 2011–2015 New bonnet with a bigger scoop, larger grille with thick chrome bars, bigger headlamps, new bumper. 567 Hilux N70 Sep 2011–2015
N80 (8th gen, "Revo") 2015–2018 The original N80 front, before the 2018 update. 830 Hilux N80 2015–2018
N80 update 2018–2020 From Aug 2018, SR and SR5 extra and double cabs got a large trapezoidal grille with a honeycomb insert. Other grades kept the earlier look, so go by build date. 830 Hilux N80 2018–2020
N80 2020 facelift 2020 onwards The 2020 facelift. Check your build date. 830 Hilux N80 2020 onwards

If you'd rather shop the whole N70 run in one place, there's also an N70 2004–2015 page. It uses the same 567 plug as the two N70 bands above.

What changes in a Hilux

Since the N70, the Hilux has used an electronic (drive-by-wire) accelerator. The pedal sends a signal to the engine computer, and Toyota's mapping softens how fast that signal builds. That's the lazy feel many owners notice when pulling out of a side street or getting a loaded tray moving.

The controller sits between the pedal and the factory loom and reshapes that signal. You choose a mode (Economy, Off, Comfort, Sport, Race or Auto) and a sensitivity level. It doesn't add power or touch the ECU tune. The engine makes exactly what it made before; you just reach it with less pedal travel.

Where Hilux owners notice it

  • Towing: less of a gap between pressing the pedal and the ute responding, with a van or camper on the back.
  • Sand and low range: a softer setting can make crawling smoother, while a sharper one helps keep momentum in soft sand.
  • Traffic: quicker take-off from lights and roundabouts.

Buying from outside Australia

The Hilux is built in Thailand and sold right across South-East Asia, NZ and the Middle East, but specs vary by market. Gulf-spec Hiluxes are left-hand drive, and the pedal assembly and plug can differ from Australian right-hand-drive models. Wherever you are, compare your pedal plug with the photo on the product page. If you're unsure, email a clear photo of the plug to admin@roar4x4.com before you order. We ship tracked to New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the UAE, and international shipping is calculated at checkout.

If your Hilux is newer than the N80, don't assume an N80 page fits. Send us a plug photo first.

FAQ

Will one controller fit every Hilux?

No. Plugs differ by era. The 2000–2004 5-pin pedal uses T63, the N70 uses 567 and the N80 uses 830, according to our product pages. Always match the plug photo.

My Hilux was built in 2018. Which page do I pick?

Two N80 bands mention 2018. Check the build date on your plate and pick the band it falls in. Both N80 pages use the 830 plug, but matching the band keeps the fitment notes accurate.

Does it change my engine tune?

No. It changes how the pedal signal is mapped. The ECU, its tune and the engine's power and torque stay factory.

Will it affect my new-car warranty?

It doesn't modify the ECU and it unplugs, but warranty decisions are up to your manufacturer or dealer. If you're worried, ask them first, and unplug it before servicing if you prefer.

I'm in the UAE or Saudi Arabia. Will it fit my Hilux?

Possibly, but Gulf-spec utes are left-hand drive and can use different pedal parts. Email a photo of your pedal plug before ordering.
